The shoot delay could have impacted the availability of cast and crew and also the release date,” Pathak said.

By means of a Notification issued on September 21, 2026, the government has brought ‘Screen Protectors for smartphones’ within the purview of the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021 and published the applicable Indian Standard ‘IS 19348:2025 – Glass Screen Protector – Specification’ for the said goods.
So, this should conclude that all smartphone screen protector existing in the market should adhere to the defined standards of quality and technical requirements.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the theft of offerings at Ayodhya’s Shri Ram Temple submitted its report to the Supreme Court in a sealed envelope on Monday. The Court was informed that CCTV cameras had captured 105 incidents of theft involving offerings. A charge sheet against the accused will be filed in the relevant court within two days.
The report was presented before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana. The SIT has based its investigation on witness statements and forensic reports.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that the statutory 90-day deadline following the first arrest expires on September 25; it is essential to file the charge sheet before this date.
Failure to do so could entitle the accused to ‘default bail.’ The Supreme Court directed the concerned Sessions Judge to proceed with further action in accordance with the law.

Apex Court Refuses to Share Report

The Supreme Court rejected the petitioners’ demand to share the SIT report. The Chief Justice stated that he did not wish to take the matter out of the Sessions Court’s jurisdiction. The Court will issue appropriate orders if a need for further investigation arises. The SIT explained that receipts for valuable items donated to the temple are generated via software, and these items are stored in State Bank of India (SBI) lockers.

Court Had Constituted a Four-Member SIT

On July 27, the Supreme Court took cognizance of the matter and ordered the formation of an SIT to investigate the theft of offerings. A four-member team was constituted under the leadership of IGP Kiran S. Several individuals, including RJD MP Sudhakar Singh, had filed petitions in the Supreme Court alleging irregularities in the management of donations. These petitions sought an SIT or CBI investigation and a forensic audit of the trust’s financial affairs.

The department stated that such offenses could lead to imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to ₹50 lakh.

One such case came to light in the Madhya Pradesh licensed service area. An investigation revealed that a Point of Sale (POS) agent in Chhattisgarh had issued 25 mobile connections using citizens’ documents without their knowledge. Following this, the Department of Telecommunications and the concerned companies blacklisted the POS agent and barred them from issuing new SIM cards in the future.

Customers Also Liable for Misuse

The Department of Telecommunications warned that handing over or selling a SIM card issued in one’s own name to another person could have serious consequences. If the SIM is used for illegal activities, the original subscriber will also be held legally liable. In light of this, users are advised to regularly check the status of SIM cards registered in their names via the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ portal.

New UPI MDR rule: A big change in UPI payments is coming. NPCI has announced that it will introduce Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on certain Person-to-Merchant (P2M) transactions through the UPI.

This system is scheduled to roll out on October 15, 2026.

This rule states that an MDR of 0.4% will be charged on certain merchant transactions above 2,000. However, this charge will be levied on the merchant, not the customer.

What is the charge for UPI payments above 2,000?

Under the new system, the MDR charged is 0.4% on eligible P2M UPI payments above 2,000.

So, for example, the MDR on an eligible merchant payment of 3,000 would be 12, and on an eligible merchant payment of 50,000, it would be 200.

Additionally, a maximum MDR cap of 300 per transaction has been set for transactions of 75,000 or more.

Will customers have to pay UPI charges?

No.

A 0 MDR will be charged on P2M UPI transactions up to 2,000. According to the NPCI, transactions of up to 2,000 account for more than 95% of the P2M UPI transaction volume. So, this change will not directly impact small everyday digital payments.

Relief for small shopkeepers too The zero-MDR arrangement will continue for small merchants who fall under the P2PM category.

This category includes eligible small merchants who receive up to 1 lakh per month in their bank accounts via UPI QR. This means that a small shopkeeper will not automatically be brought under the MDR ambit just because one payment crosses 2,000. Different charges for some sectors A flat MDR of 5 has been fixed for transactions above 2,000 for basic sectors including railways, telecom, insurance, fuel and agricultural inputs. Meanwhile, a different rate has been fixed for certain capital market transactions.

Why has UPI MDR been announced?

Revenues from MDR will be used to build the infrastructure for the UPI ecosystem and to cater to issues such as cybersecurity, innovation, customer support and fraud, according to the NPCI. A more sustainable revenue model for the digital payments system is therefore envisioned in relation to large merchant transactions. If you are renting a PG (Paying Guest) accommodation, any instance where your security deposit is denied reimbursement when you leave the room clearly comes under the purview of your rights. The latest discussions in legal corridors are such that every situation is not where a landlord or PG owner can simply refrain from reimbursing your security deposit.

What will happen to the security deposit after you leave PG?

Generally tenants need to pay a security deposit to the PG owners when taking admission for renting a room under the contract of tenancy. Upon vacancy of the room, one could claim reimbursement of the deposit on the ground of rent dues or other liabilities outstanding to zero and no loss suffered for the room used by the tenant that is outside the scope of use and wear for the room to which the landlord owner is otherwise entitled and has an interest over to that extent. However, the conditions which constitute the actual basis for claim of refund will depend on the PG or room rental agreement.

What kind of deduction might the owners make from the deposit?

Reasons that could lead to landlord owning or deducting some of the deposit are:

Unpaid rent or additional charges

Damage to the property caused by the tenant

Pre-determined charges as in agreement

Other stated liabilities

It is important to understand that treating ordinary wear and tear as a form of damage caused by the tenant is unethical, and arbitrary deduction might not be legally sustainable.

What should I do if I don’t get back my deposit back?

Save details of all payment receipts of security deposit to you as your PG agreement, transaction receipts by Bank, etc; as well as WhatsApp messages or e-mail correspondence between the tenant and landlord.
